The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized France Wednesday for attempting to blame Moscow for the crisis in eastern Ukraine, while urging Paris to fulfill its commitment under an earlier reconciliation deal.

MOSCOW, April 16 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized France Wednesday for attempting to blame Moscow for the crisis in eastern Ukraine, while urging Paris to fulfill its commitment under an earlier reconciliation deal.

“Instead of making unfounded accusations that Russia caused all the troubles in Ukraine, French diplomacy led by Fabius should rather focus on efforts to fulfill its commitments,” the Russian ministry said in a statement.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius earlier alleged on his Twitter blog that the violence in Ukraine is the result of Russia’s actions and also accused Moscow of trying to disrupt the presidential election in Ukraine on May 25.

The Russian ministry added that the ongoing crisis in Kiev, where “authorities plan to launch a war against their own people,” is a result of France’s refusal to comply with the reconciliation agreement.

A day after the February 21 EU-brokered agreement announced early elections and establishing a national unity government, the Ukrainian parliament, backed by far-right movements, ousted President Viktor Yanukovych and scheduled an early presidential election for May 25.

Russia condemned the move, urging the West to respect the existing agreement.
