MOSCOW, July 22 (RIA Novosti) - A correspondent of a Russia Today (RT) sister channel has been injured while filming a special operation by the Syrian army in the town of Daraya, near the capital Damascus, the TV channel said on Sunday.

Ibrahim Issa, who has been working for RT's Arabic sister channel, Rossiya Al-Yaum, was wounded when a mortar shell reportedly hit a building where Syrian army troops were deployed and where the TV crew was working, the channel said on its website.

“RT stringer correspondent in Syria Ibrahim Issa was injured by mortar shell fragment during hostilities in a Damascus suburb,” RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan said in her Twitter.

He was injured in the neck, but is now feeling well, the channel said.

Nearly 100,000 people are believed to have died since fighting broke out between Syrian government forces and rebels in March 2011, according to the latest UN figures.
