SARATOV, June 21 (RIA Novosti) - More than 110 people have sought medical assistance since a large fire and multiple explosions tore through a military facility near the Volga Area earlier this week, the Russian emergencies ministry said on Friday.

Some 6,500 residents, including 800 children, were evacuated from a community surrounding a military facility near the city of Chapayevsk when a large fire erupted amid accidental munitions explosions on Tuesday. All residents returned to their homes on Friday afternoon.

“More than 110 people needed medical aid,” the Russian emergencies ministry said in a statement. “More than 640 people received psychological assistance.”

Works are still underway to remove gunpowder and explosives from the facility’s warehouses, the region’s emergencies service said.

President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday ordered that affected locals be paid 10,000 rubles ($330) for “emergency needs.” According to the Samara Region emergencies service, a total of 4,286 people applied for the compensation and received the money.
