Dagestan Judge Murder Suspect Killed During Arrest Attempt

A suspect in the high-profile murder of a judge of the Supreme Court of the Russian North Caucasus republic of Dagestan was killed in a special operation on Friday evening, Russian law-enforcement agencies said.

MAKHACHKALA, February 16 (RIA Novosti) - A suspect in the high-profile murder of a judge of the Supreme Court of the Russian North Caucasus republic of Dagestan was killed in a special operation on Friday evening, Russian law-enforcement agencies said.

The man locked himself in an apartment in Dagestan’s capital Makhachkala with a woman, believed to be his wife or a partner. She later agreed to leave the apartment in the course of negotiations.

"At about 22.20 Moscow time [18:20 GMT], law-enforcers have completed the active phase of a special operation in Makhachkala. One militant was killed as a result,” a spokesman for the regional Investigative Committee said.

According to the spokesman, the man was identified as “Nabi Nabiyev, born in 1986,” an active member of a militant group in Makhachkala.

The National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK) said on Saturday that it suspected Nabiyev of being among three people who attacked Dagestan Supreme Counrt judge Magomed Magomedov on January 15. The judge died on site.

The woman, who is suspected of being “an active accomplice” to the militants, is currently being questioned, NAK said.
