VORONEZH, December 19 (RIA Novosti) – Police searched the apartments of two opposition activists in the city of Voronezh on Wednesday morning over their possible connection to a high profile criminal case into an alleged coup plot.
Officers from the anti-extremism division were also involved in searching the apartments of Alexander Boldyrev, who heads the local branch of Solidarity, and Natalia Zvyagina, opposition activist and human rights campaigner, lawyer Olga Gnezdilova told RIA Novosti.
The police declined to say what prompted their visit, but Gnezdilova said that this operation was linked to the high profile police investigation of an alleged coup-plot in Russia.
Three opposition leftist activists, Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov, Leonid Razvozzhayev, and Konstantin Lebedev have been accused of plotting to overthrow President Vladimir Putin with help from abroad. All three have denied the accusations.
Lebedev and Razvozzhayev remain in custody, while Udaltsov has been ordered not to leave Moscow.
Police spokeswoman Natalia Kulikova confirmed that these apartments had been searched, but did not elaborate.
