Two hundred Peruvian servicemen will study in Russia’s universities, according to an agreement between the two countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday.
“There are interesting directions of possible joint work - power industry, fishery, military and technical cooperation, education,” Putin told his Peruvian counterpart Ollanta Humala on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Russia’s Far East.
“Eighty-nine students from Peru are currently studying in Russia. We have coordinated the training of over 200 servicemen in Russian Defense Ministry universities,” he said.
Putin also said he hopes bilateral relations and trade will reach a new level. Russia-Peru trade in 2011 nearly doubled on 2010 to reach $726 million.
The APEC summit is held in the city of Vladivostok. Its official part takes place on September 8-9.
