The Communist Party of Russia united with two major public movements to perform an alternative vote count of the March 4 presidential elections, a senior party member said on Friday.
“We concluded an agreement with the Rosvybory project of [anti-corruption blogger and a major figure in the ongoing opposition protests] Alexei Navalny and the League of Voters,” said Yuri Afonin, a State Duma lawmaker and the secretary of the Communist party’s Central Committee.
The League of Voters is a group of liberal public figures that came together to try to ensure fair elections on March 4.
Afonin said the Communists would create a vote count network on the basis of a system it used in the December 4 parliamentary elections.
“We expect that on the night of voting at least 70% of protocols from polling stations will be downloaded into the system, and in a number of regions we would be able to do this even faster than [Central Election Commission Chairman Vladimir] Churov,” Afonin said.
The Communist Party will send 304,000 observers and election commission members to polling stations, including about 10,000 in Moscow and the Moscow Region.
