The Russian Foreign Ministry plans to annually publish reports on human rights violations in other countries

The Russian Foreign Ministry plans to annually publish reports on human rights violations in other countries, the ministry’s human rights commissioner, Konstantin Dolgov, said.

“The idea is to make the process of drafting and publishing such reports regular. The reports could be annual,” Dolgov told the Kommersant-Vlast magazine.

“We will track the situation in the human rights sphere in different states, and if necessary, the report’s coverage could be expanded,” he said.

In December 2011, the Russian Foreign Ministry published its first report on the human rights situation abroad, including in the United States and some European countries. The report in particular expressed concern over the Guantanamo prison, the freedom of speech and mistakes by the U.S. judicial system.

Commenting on that report, U.S. Department of State spokesman Mark Toner said Washington considers reports from other countries on the situation with human rights in the United States useful and is always open for them.
