Police in Moscow cordoned off Triumfalnaya Square on Saturday in anticipation of an unsanctioned opposition protest at 6:00 p.m. Moscow time, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.
Triumfalnaya is the regular venue for unsanctioned "Strategy-31" protests held on the 31st day of each month to affirm Article 31 of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of assembly. Past protests have been quickly suppressed by riot police, who often outnumber the protesters.
As of 5:15 p.m on Saturday, police had parked 30-40 buses and trucks around the square and closed off pedestrian access.
When asked whether there would be a protest today, one policeman said: "We don't know."
