The ruling United Russia party, which lost its super-majority during Sunday’s parliamentary elections, may lose control over half of the State Duma’s committees, the head of the Liberal Democrats (LDPR) faction in the State Duma, Igor Lebedev, said on Friday.
Lebedev said the number of State Duma committees may be cut to 28 from 32. The exact amount will be determined after consultations between factions.
“As of now there are probably no more than 28 committees left,” Lebedev said without elaborating which committees would be abolished.
He also said that the United Russia party would head only 14 committees out of 28, in the last parliament it controlled 26 committees out of 32.
The Russian Communist party (KPRF) will head six committees, while the LDPR and A Just Russia will be given four committees, Lebedev said.
The United Russia party's officials were unavailable for comment on distribution of committees among parties.
The deputy head of the Communist party in the State Duma, Sergei Reshulsky confirmed that the new Duma will consist of 26-28 committees. KPRF will control five or six of them, Reshulsky added.
