An unusual ballot box of traditional pryanik cakes was made in the Tula Region, south of Moscow, Vladimir Churov, the head of the Russian Central Election Commission said on Sunday.

"We have a special ballot box which will be used under most unusual circumstances. This box is made of Tula pryanik cakes," said Churov, who is currently monitoring the State Duma elections.

He added that after the elections the box "can be eaten without ballot papers."

Pryanik is a honey cake with a very long history, one of Tula's main symbols together with samovars and weapons.
