Mandatory drug testing in schools may be introduced if the situation with drug abuse among schoolchildren does not improve, Russia's chief drug doctor, Yevgeny Brun, said on Monday.
"I think that the introduction of a voluntary testing program for students will take two years. If the situation doesn't stabilize and improve, then we will move to mandatory testing in schools," Brun said.
Bruhn noted that the most popular drugs among teenagers are cannabis, ecstasy, amphetamines and hallucinogenics.
Russia has an estimated 2.5 million drug users, including one-time users, occasional users and drug addicts.
