Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Friday decisions to restrict sales of alcohol should be made at the regional level rather than federal.
"These decisions cannot be made like they were made on May 16, 1986, when the infamous anti-alcohol act was signed that dealt a severe blow to the fight against alcohol abuse," Medvedev said at a meeting with young parliamentarians.
"This is a task for regional leaders... They have to decide for themselves what and when should be sold, where alcohol can be consumed and where not, or how to sell low-alcohol drinks," he said.
"This should be connected with the traditions of a specific territory," the president said.
