Delegations from Russia and the United States will meet in Geneva from March 28 to April 8 for an inaugural session of the Bilateral Consultative Commission, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

The Commission is the implementation body created by the New START Treaty.

"The Russian Federation and the United States will coordinate and discuss technical matters related to the implementation of the Treaty," the ministry said in a press release posted on its website.

The U.S. State Department issued a similar statement, saying that under the terms of the Treaty, "it is required to meet at least twice each year."

The New START Treaty entered into force on February 5, and implementation of the Treaty is well underway.

Signed in April by the presidents of Russia and the United States, the Treaty cuts both nations' nuclear arsenals to 1,550 nuclear warheads, down from the current 2,200.
