Police in Russia's Far East Amur region have taken delivery of two unmanned aerial vehicles and will use them for patrol duty, a regional police spokesman said on Friday.

"With this new equipment we'll be able to patrol highways, look for stolen cars, control illegal logging, and prevent forest fires," Dmitry Serezhichev said.

The UAVs, worth 4 million rubles ($142,000), have a range of up to 45 kilometers, a speed of up to 120 kmh and an altitude of up to 3,000 meters.

They are equipped with photo and video cameras with night-vision capability.
