The identity of the man who attacked Moscow's Domodedovo Airport on January 24 was established the next day after the deadly blast, a source close to the investigation said on Monday.
The powerful blast that ripped through the international arrivals hall of the Moscow's busiest airport killed 36 people and injured over 100.
Police officially announced they identified Magomed Yevloyev, a 20-year-old student from the impoverished southern Russian region of Ingushetia, as the suicide bomber, on February 6.
"The intelligence services identified the suicide bomber via fingerprints taken from [his] ripped off hand the next day after the crime, but they tried to keep this information a secret as a large-scale investigative operation was underway in Ingushetia," the source said.
The Kommersant daily said the investigation has established that Yevloev was seen off on his journey to Moscow by his brother Akhmed and sister Fatima and their friend Umar Aushev. Traces of explosives were detected on their hands and they have all been arrested.
