An eight-year-old boy who was put on a plane alone back to Russia by his adoptive U.S. mother last year wanted to go home, she claims.
Artyom Savelyev arrived at a Moscow airport in April carrying a note from his adoptive mother, Torry Hansen, saying she did not want him as he was "psychotic." She had adopted him from Russia's Far East in September 2009.
Russian children rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov wrote on his Twitter account on Tuesday: "Ms Hansen is trying to prove that she did not reject Artyom. 'He wanted to go back to mummy and she let him go,' her lawyer says."
Astakhov added that Hansen "is trying to avoid paying alimony."
"We will seek justice with regard to Artyom," he wrote. "[We will] demand alimony from the American adoptive mother and annul the adoption."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the incident "a monstrous deed."
