Moscow's police chief Vladimir Kolokoltsev pledged on Wednesday to increase transparency in the Russian police force in a bid to crack down on rampant corruption.
"We are not going to conceal anything," Kolokoltsev told a press conference in Moscow.
He added that members of the public can report corruption cases at the official police telephone number, 02.
The official salary of a Moscow police officer will be increased to 60,000 rubles ($1,950) a month by 2012, he said, as low incomes are cited as one of biggest causes of bribe taking.
President Dmitry Medvedev has ordered a wide scale police reform, including the rebranding of the country's police force from the current combative 'militia' to the more Western-like 'police.'
Kolokoltsev said Moscow police will continue to employ ethnic minorities to ensure equality in dealing increased racial tensions in the capital.
The shooting dead of a football fan by a migrant from Russia's mainly Muslim south has sparked race-hate riots and ethnic clashes across Russia in the past few weeks, including a brawl between over 5,000 football supporters and police outside the Kremlin walls.
