All Russian football fan movements have spoke out against the violence which broke out in central Moscow at the weekend, the president of the All-Russian Football Fan Association (VOB) said on Tuesday.

All Russian football fan movements have spoke out against the violence which broke out in central Moscow at the weekend, the president of the All-Russian Football Fan Association (VOB) said on Tuesday.

"All the organizers of [football] fan movements have condemned the events on Manezh Square," all-Russia fan head Alexander Shprygin told journalists.

The violence, which saw the involvement of nationalist groups, was triggered by the death of a Spartak Moscow fan last week in a mass brawl between football fans and migrants from the North Caucasus.

"Maybe there were young people who attend football matches among those who came to Manezh Square, but there were no representatives of fan movements there," Shprygin said.

About 30 people, including at least eight riot police officers, were injured in the fighting. Dozens of protesters were detained and charged with administrative offenses and ten criminal cases were earlier initiated over the riots. Seven people still remain in hospital.

A protest also turned violent in St. Petersburg as police attempted to prevent its participants from blocking a road.
