The second temperature record in the first three days of August was registered in Moscow on Tuesday as an unprecedented heat wave continues in Central Russia, a source in the Fobos meteorological center said.

"Meteorologists at Moscow's main meteorological station registered a new air temperature record [for August 3] of 34.8 degrees Centigrade [94.6 degrees Fahrenheit]. The previous record, registered in 1936, was 34.7 degrees Centigrade [94.4 degrees Fahrenheit]," the source said.

Abnormal heat and drought gripped Central Russia more than a month ago with two temperature records broken in June and ten in July. Moscow's warmest-ever day on record was also registered in July, when the temperature soared to 38.2 degrees Centigrade (100.8 degrees Fahrenheit).

The heat wave is expected to continue through mid-August.
