Game specialists on Thursday killed an aggressive wild bear near the Esso village on the Kamchatka Peninsula, a regional environmental spokesman said.

The young bear for a week lived at the village dump and aggressively attacked garbage trucks and community services workers, the spokesman told RIA Novosti.

"The bear was a threat to people's life and was shot at the edge of the village," he said.

This is the fifth bear on the Kamchatka Peninsula that has been destroyed due to aggressive behavior since the beginning of the year.

The Kamchatka brown bear is one of the largest bear subspecies in the world. The weight of a male is around 700 kilograms and can be more than three meters in length. There are some 18,000 bears inhabiting the peninsula.

Bear attacks are common in the area. Last year, one person was killed, while in 2008 three died after being attacked by bear.
