Spanish National Court Judge Fernando Andreu on Wednesday questioned in Moscow Russian tycoon Oleg Deripaska over a 4 million euro ($5.5 mln) international laundering scheme, Deripaska's press service said.

It said that when Derispaska learned several months ago that "his name was being cited in connection with an ongoing investigation in Spain," he volunteered to "clarify the situation and confirm that he is ready to answer any relevant questions."

Russian business daily Vedomosti earlier on Wednesday quoted Deripaska's spokesman as saying that he would cooperate with the Spanish court to "help the investigation that involves several Russian and Spanish individuals and companies."

Deripaska is a witness in the case against an Israeli citizen, Mikhail Chorny, who allegedly legalized ill-gotten revenues through the Vera Metallurgica Company registered in Spain.

Vedomosti said Vera Metallurgica was believed to be connected with the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC), owned by Deripaska, Chorny and Iskander Makhmudov.

The paper quoted the tycoon as saying the allegations arose from the testimony by his rival, former director general of the Kachkanar Mining and Processing plant, Jalol Haidarov, in other trials.

Vedomosti said Chorny was put on Interpol's wanted list as a main participant in the money laundering case. Vedomosti quoted El Mundo as saying last year in May that the Spanish Court issued an arrest warrant for Chorny.

In October 2009, El Mundo said Spanish police became interested in Deripaska's possible involvement in the case.
