Just two parties - the ruling United Russia and the Communists - have been elected to the Moscow City Duma, the head of the Moscow City Election Committee said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW, October 14 (RIA Novosti) - Just two parties - the ruling United Russia and the Communists - have been elected to the Moscow City Duma, the head of the Moscow City Election Committee said on Wednesday.

"Today the committee tallied the results of the Moscow City Duma elections. The elections are considered valid," Valentin Gorbunov said.

The United Russia party of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin gained 66.25% in Sunday's vote, with the Communist Party a distant second with 13.3%, enough for three seats in the 35-member chamber. United Russia candidates won all 17 single-mandate districts.

All the other parties failed to clear the 7% threshold, including the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (6.13%), the left-wing Kremlin-backed A Just Russia Party (5.33%), the opposition Russian United Democratic Party Yabloko (4.71%), and the left-wing nationalist oriented Patriots of Russia party (1.81%).

The turnout for the elections was 35.63%.

Gorbunov said the committee had reviewed complaints of voting violations, adding that some of the complaints had been handed over to the Prosecutor's Office.

Earlier on Wednesday, the LDPR party called for a recount of the results of Sunday's regional elections, which were won in a landslide by the national ruling party.

United Russia dominated in 7,000 regional and municipal polls held in 75 Russian regions.

All the opposition parties in the lower chamber of the Russian parliament - the LDPR, the Communists and the A Just Russia party - left the plenary session hall of the State Duma to protest the election results on Wednesday.
