MOSCOW, September 21 (RIA Novosti) - Unknown gunmen in the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia opened fire on a car containing a police officer and two of his brothers, all of whom died at the scene, a police source said on Monday.
The incident occurred on Sunday at around noon Moscow time in Nazranovsky district on the federal Kavkaz highway.
"Unknown assailants in a Zhiguli car opened fire with automatic weapons," the source said, adding that an investigation was underway.
On Sunday, Ingush President Yunus-Bek Yevkurov condemned the assassination of a prominent Muslim cleric in southern Russia and said his killers would be found and punished.
Ismail Bostanov, deputy chairman of the Muslim Board of Karachayevo-Circassia and Stavropol, was killed on Sunday in an attack on his car at a filling station in the town of Cherkessk in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Karachayevo-Circassia.
