MOSCOW, August 17 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry has dispatched a plane with medical specialists and aid for the victims of a car bomb blast that rocked Nazran, Ingushetia's largest city on Monday, the ministry said.

The explosion at the city's police headquarters killed 20 people and wounded another 80, including 10 children. The blast is suspected to have been detonated when a suicide bomber rammed a GAZelle truck into the gates of the police compound early Monday morning.

According to the spokesman, the Il-76 cargo plane with medical units and specialists from Russia's emergencies ministry is due to take off at 16:00 Moscow time (13:00 GMT) from Moscow Domodedovo Airport for the North Ossetian city of Beslan where all the injured victims are due to be taken.

The blast is one of the worst attacks to hit the region in the past few months which has seen almost daily attacks on police and officials in Russia's mainly Muslim North Caucasus region of Ingushetia and neighboring Dagestan that border Chechnya, which saw two separatist wars in the late 1990s-early 2000s.

Ingushetia's construction minister was gunned down in his office last Wednesday; the murder followed the killing of a Supreme Court judge and the attempted assassination of the republic's president, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, in late June. Last month the Ingush forensic chief was also gunned down.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has called the increased terrorist activity in the Caucasus "an attempt to destabilize the situation in the region."
