KEMEROVO, February 24 (RIA Novosti) - Two teenagers have died in an avalanche while skiing in the mountains in southwest Siberia, local rescuers said on Tuesday.

Rescuers said a group of three teenagers were skiing near the city of Mezhdurechensk, in the Kemerovo Region, at the weekend when they were caught in the avalanche. One of them survived, while his two other companions, aged 15 and 17, died.

A spokesman for the local Emergency Situations Ministry said the teenagers had died in an area in which local authorities had banned skiing due to the danger of avalanches.

In early February, two railway workers were killed by an avalanche near the region's border with the republic of Khakassia while carrying out maintenance work.
