MOSCOW, October 24 (RIA Novosti) - One Russian serviceman has been killed and ten others injured in a series of explosions across the troubled Russian North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, a police source said on Friday.

The first bomb went off in the Shali District of Chechnya at 1.20 p.m. Moscow time (09:20 GMT) on Thursday when a column of Russian troops was passing. One serviceman died at the scene from his injuries, and two others were hospitalized.

Two hours later, a landmine exploded when a group of police officers were en route to put out a blaze in a house on the outskirts of the Urus-Martanovsky District. One of the officers was injured.

An hour later, another group of police officers from the Chechen Interior Ministry arrived at the scene. Seven of them were then injured when a second bomb exploded. The officers were subsequently hospitalized.

Terrorist attacks remain extremely common in Russia's North Caucasus republics, although the active phase of the military campaign in Chechnya officially ended several years ago.
