The new logo, created by international design consultant Mario Garcia, displays the name of the agency below a blue sphere with cut-out waves.
Editor-in-Chief Svetlana Mironyuk said: "RIA Novosti has set itself a goal of becoming Russia's leading multimedia information agency within the next three to five years."
The previous logo served the agency for 15 years.
"The new logo is our brand - a promise and a catalyst for inner changes, aimed at implementing our chosen strategy," Mironyuk said.
Deputy director-general Valery Levchenko said the design represented the technological particularities of the modern media market.
The sphere "symbolizes the global reach of RIA Novosti and the agency's transition from textual format to a new multimedia dimension," Levchenko said.
Garcia, who has overseen the redesign of many of the world's leading newspapers, said "The new logo of RIA Novosti combines both elements of modernity and classicism. This combination goes well with the agency, in view of its strategy. I am sure that the logo will serve for a long time."
