MOSCOW, November 21 (RIA Novosti) - Lieutenant General Valery Yevtukhovich has been appointed commander of the Russian Airborne Troops, a Defense Ministry source said Wednesday.
"Gen. Valery Yevtukhovich, who previously served as the Airborne Troops chief-of-staff and first deputy commander, has been appointed the new commander," the source said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed in September former Airborne Troops commander, Colonel General Alexander Kolmakov, first deputy defense minister.
During his long military career, Yevtukhovich, 53, served in Belarus, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Lithuania. He was also commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Kosovo.
