MOSCOW, October 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian consulate is verifying reports about the arrest of a Russian businessman on alleged sex abuse charges in Cambodia, a source in the consulate said Thursday.

"Cambodian officials have not yet notified the Russian consulate about the arrest of a Russian national, unofficial information is being checked," Timur Zevakin said.

Earlier media reported, citing local police, that Alexander Trofimov, the CEO of an investment company, was detained Wednesday in the city of Sihanoukville on charges of debauchery, which is a Cambodian term for child abuse.

Trofimov, 41, is accused of having sex with six local girls between the ages of 12 and 18 since 2005, and, if found guilty, could face up to 20 years behind bars, the Associated Press news agency said.
