The tremors, measuring between 3.8 and 4 on the Richter magnitude scale, struck near Simushir Island in the central Kurils. No casualties, destruction or tsunami threat have been reported.
The region's most powerful recent earthquake struck on November 15, with a force of eight on the Richter scale, 130 kilometers (80 miles) southeast of Simushir Island. A tsunami alert was announced, and more than 900 people were evacuated.
The Emergency Situations Ministry said about 800 tremors have been registered in Russia's Far East this year.
During 2006, more than 1,200 people, including 542 children, have been evacuated from the north of the Kamchatka peninsula, to the north of the Kurils, following a series of earthquakes.
A 7.8-magnitude quake in the Koryak Autonomous Area in north Kamchatka, the strongest since 1900, injured 31 people on April 21. It also damaged about 380 houses and 25 administrative facilities in four other towns.
