Russia's lower house of parliament condemned the recent actions of Georgian authorities as "a policy of state terrorism," a senior Russian MP said Tuesday.
MOSCOW, October 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's lower house of parliament condemned the recent actions of Georgian authorities as "a policy of state terrorism," a senior Russian MP said Tuesday.

On Monday, Georgia released four Russian officers arrested last week on espionage charges, but the ongoing row with Moscow continues to deteriorate as Russia suspended transport and mail links with its southern neighbor.

Andrei Kokoshin, the chairman of the State Duma's Committee for CIS and Compatriots Affairs, said the lower house will consider a draft statement on the anti-Russian and anti-democratic policies of the Georgian leadership Wednesday.

Kokoshin said the State Duma regards those actions as "a policy of state terrorism, with all the consequent negative results."

He said such policies "are not in the interests of the Georgian people, and could have negative consequences for the country's future, economic development and the well-being and development of relations with its neighbors."

Kokoshin said under such conditions "Russia has a right to implement a set of measures aimed at protecting its interests and national security, including the imposition of financial and economic sanctions against Georgia."

He also said MPs backed the Russian government's efforts to protect Russia's interests and security and ensure stability in the Caucasus.
