MOSCOW, January 5 (RIA Novosti) - Issues concerning prices on export of Russian natural gas to Romania and other Eastern European countries are stipulated by relevant contracts, a spokesman for the Russian energy giant Gazprom said Thursday.

Sergei Kupriyanov commented on the statement of the Romanian economy and trade minister, who asked Gazprom to explain why Romania pays more for Russian natural gas than its neighboring Ukraine and Bulgaria.

"All issues connected with pricing policy within the framework of [long-term] contracts are settled by a price formula stipulated in a [relevant] contract," Kupriyanov said.

He also said that the statement made by head of Ukraine's national natural gas company Naftogaz Alexei Ivchenko, saying that Ukraine could sue Gazprom for accusing the country of stealing gas, was imprudent.

"We [Gazprom] never took our words back, but we believe that at the moment this issue and the conflict is been settled," Kupriyanov said.
