TALLINN (Sputnik) — According to Reps, small countries have always played an important diplomatic role, especially in the times of tensions in the world.
"I truly believe so… We are a part of NATO and we share a border with Russia, and our country is a place where Russia and the US could settle acute issues," Reps said during presidential candidates' debates broadcast by Raadio 4.
Reps believes that the potential meeting could open a new era in the countries' diplomatic relations and does not consider the idea unfeasible.
The first round of voting on the president is expected is the Estonian parliament on August 29. A candidate needs no less than two-thirds of the 101 votes to win. Incumbent President Toomas Hendrik Ilves has served two terms and cannot be reelected for a third one.
