The UN Security Council and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon issued condemnations and calls for accountability after two terrorist attacks killed dozens of Egyptian soldiers in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

NEW YORK, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - The UN Security Council and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon issued condemnations and calls for accountability after two terrorist attacks killed dozens of Egyptian soldiers in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

The Security Council's 15 members unanimously agreed to a press statement which "reiterated their determination to combat all forms of terrorism, in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations."

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon specified that "the two terrorist attacks that targeted military checkpoints in Sheikh Zuweid and al-Arish in North Sinai, killing at least 31 members of the Egyptian security forces and injuring dozens more."

Calling for justice, the Security Council's members "underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of this terrorist attack to justice, and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with all relevant governments in this regard."
