MILAN, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - The UK Prime Minister has reminded of his country's contribution to fight the Ebola virus and urged other nations to join the efforts during the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit Friday.

"It is time for other countries to look at their responsibilities and their resources and act in similar way to what Britain is doing in Sierra Leone , what Americans doing in Liberia, France is doing in Guinea, other countries now need to step forward," Cameron said.

He added that the best way to protect Europe from the virus was to take "action at source in West Africa."

Britain is "commuting a well over a 100 million pounds (roughly 160 million dollars). 750 troops will be training 800 members of health staff in Sierra Leone, providing 700 beds. We are doing a huge amount. And I think it is time for other countries," Cameron said.

The ASEM summit is under way in Milan. During the summit the leaders of more than 50 countries will discuss sustainable development and global security.

The current Ebola epidemic, one of the current global security issues, started in southern Guinea in February and later spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Senegal, with several Ebola cases having been reported outside of West Africa.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of October 12, 4,493 people have died from the current Ebola outbreak, with a total of 8,997 Ebola cases confirmed.
