UNITED NATIONS, October 9 (RIA Novosti) - The United Nations is not planning to send observers to monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine, because the organization has not received such a request from Kiev, the UN's press service told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

"For the United Nations to take part in election monitoring, there would need to be an official request from a Member State, as well as a mandate from the General Assembly or the Security Council. In the case of Ukraine, we have not received such a request," the press service said.

On August 27, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed an executive order dissolving the country's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada. Early parliamentary elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 26. The members of the Ukrainian parliament will be chosen via the mixed election system: half of them are to be elected by a party-list system, while the others – in the single-seat districts. Electoral blocks of political parties have been banned from taking part in the elections and the election threshold has been set at five percent.
