WASHINGTON, October 2 (RIA Novosti), Lyudmila Chernova - The United States condemns the ongoing anti-government action in Yemen, US State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki has said at a press briefing.

"We condemn the ongoing hostile and aggressive actions against the Yemeni government, and continue to call on all parties to implement all aspects of the Peace and National Partnership Agreement, Psaki stated Wednesday.

She added that the United States denounce "elements seeking to exploit the current security situation to further inflame matters, particularly, members of the former Saleh regime and Houthi leadership, who continued this violence to further their agendas at the expense of the Yemeni people."

Shiite Houthi insurgents have been up in arms across Yemen since mid-August, calling for economic and political reforms. In September, the Houthi overran Sanaa, seizing administrative and military infrastructure, and raiding homes of government officials, including party leaders.

The rebels have signed an agreement with the government to end the fighting, although the Houthis remain in control of much of Yemen's capital and continue to occupy a number of government buildings.

On Tuesday, hundreds of the Yemenis took to the streets of the country's capital Sanaa to protest the presence of the Houthi militias in the city. People demanded an immediate withdrawal of Houthis and handover of the seized facilities and properties, including weaponry.
