MOSCOW, October 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russia regrets that at the UN Human Rights Session held on September 8 – September 26 in Geneva, the European Union and the United States failed to condemn the crimes, committed by jihadi militants in Syria, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

"Upon an initiative of Russian delegation, a joint statement by a group of states has been made at the session, condemning the atrocities of the jihadists in Syria and it was recommended to the Independent Commission investigating human rights violations in Syria to investigate into these crimes," said the statement released on Tuesday, adding that it is important that Russia's decision received support from major regional players, including China, Iran, Algeria and Pakistan; however, Russia regrets "that the western colleagues and the US and EU in particular refused to join the statement."

Russia's Foreign Ministry also noted that among the topics, discussed at the session were the important issues of human rights protection, including the protection of rights of women, children and indigenous peoples, struggle against racism and protection of the freedom of speech.
