Lavrov, Kerry to Meet for Bilateral Talks in New York on Wednesday: Diplomatic Source

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry will hold talks in New York in the framework of the UN General Assembly session on September 24, said a source from the Russian delegation.

NEW YORK, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry will hold talks in New York within the framework of the UN General Assembly session on September 24, a source from the Russian delegation told RIA Novosti.

"A bilateral meeting between Sergei Lavrov and John Kerry is scheduled for Wednesday," the diplomatic source said.

The 69th Regular Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 69) convened at the UN Headquarters on September 16, the general debate opened on September 23. UNGA 69 is expected to bring together about 90 heads of state, 50 prime ministers and deputy prime ministers and 40 foreign affairs ministers. Lavrov, whose speech is scheduled for September 27, heads the Russian delegation.

The UNGA 69 will focus on issues of peace and security, the promotion of human rights, strengthening of the international humanitarian system and the effectiveness of the United Nations.
