MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) - Former President of France Nicolas Sarkozy said on Friday that he is going to run for the country' top position once again.
"After deep reflection, I have decided to offer the French a new political choice … I am a candidate for the presidency from my political family [the UMP party]," Sarkozy said in a statement posted on his Facebook account.
The politician added that his goal is to offer a credible alternative to France's current direction by creating "a 21st century political formation."
Nicolas Sarkozy held the office of a French president from 2007-2012 and was the leader of the UMP conservative political party. Sarkozy retired from political life following his defeat in the 2012 presidential election when he was beaten by incumbent President Francois Hollande.
