EDINBURGH, September 19 (RIA Novosti) - The Scottish city of Aberdeen, which is one of the nation's big three, has been a very hefty win for the "no" campaign in the referendum, astonishing many analysts who expected it to support Scotland's bid for independence.

The "no" vote in Aberdeen defeated "yes" by 58.6 to 41.4 percent, or 59,390 to 84,094 votes. The local turnout was 81.7 percent.

The three key cities of Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Edinburgh account for 25 percent of Scotland's population and are largely perceived as potential game-changers.
