EDINBURGH, September 19 (RIA Novosti), Mark Hirst – A former deputy leader of the pro-independence Scottish National Party (SNP), Jim Sillars, has told RIA Novosti he remains confident Scots will vote to leave the UK.

"I think that once the results come in from the West of Scotland, and Glasgow in particular, I think we will see a tipping point," Sillars, a former Labor and SNP member of parliament said.

"I am confident that Yes will win with around 55 percent of the vote," Sillars added.

Asked whether the threat he made during the campaign of a "day of reckoning" for companies who had publicly backed a "no" vote, Sillars said, "I was trying to speak directly to the investors and shareholders in these companies. I think there will be a day of reckoning and in some cases, like those civil servants who leaked market details to the media during the campaign, I think we will see them in court over the actions they took."

Referendum polls closed at 10 p.m. in 32 councils across Scotland, with official results expected to be announced between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. local time on Friday.

On Thursday, people in Scotland were voting in the historical independence referendum. Voters were given a ballot paper with the question: "Should Scotland be an independent country?" and the "yes" or "no" options.

If the majority of Scots vote "yes" in the referendum, then on March 24, 2016, Scotland will become independent from the United Kingdom.
