Sergei Naryshkin, the speaker of the State Duma, the lower Russian parliamentary house, has received an invitation to participate in the work of an international parliamentary contact group for the Ukrainian crisis in October, Russian State Duma's press service said Friday in a press release.

MOSCOW, September 12 (RIA Novosti) - Sergei Naryshkin, the speaker of the State Duma, the lower Russian parliamentary house, has received an invitation to participate in the work of an international parliamentary contact group for the Ukrainian crisis in October, Russian State Duma's press service said Friday in a press release.

"An invitation by OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President I. [Ilkka] Kanerva to take part in the work of the International parliamentary contact group for Ukraine with the aim of de-escalation in the [Ukrainian] regions and facilitation of the country's coming out of a crisis, addressed to the Chairman of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin, has been received," the statement reads.

The parliamentary leaders from a number of countries are expected to take part in the [Contact] Group's meeting, scheduled for early October in Geneva as part of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's fall session; the organizers [OSCE PA] are reconciling the composition of the participants, State Duma's press release added.

The international parliamentary contact group for Ukraine was established at an OSCE PA session in Baku in June, spearheaded by Russia. The group is supposed to aid the de-escalation and reconciliation of the crisis in southeastern Ukraine, where the government and pro-independence supporters have been fighting since mid-April. The sides are currently maintaining a ceasefire, agreed on September 5.
