The anti-European United Kingdom Independence Party (Ukip) MEP David Coburn has told RIA Novosti his party has an “open door” to talks with the UK Labour Party about forming a possible coalition government following next year’s 2015 General Election.

EDINBURGH, September 8 (RIA Novosti), Mark Hirst – The anti-European United Kingdom Independence Party (Ukip) MEP David Coburn has told RIA Novosti his party has an “open door” to talks with the UK Labour Party about forming a possible coalition government following next year’s 2015 General Election.

Coburn appeared to rule out a deal with the Conservatives, who Ukip have traditionally taken votes from, and told RIA Novosti, “We will have an open door to the Labour Party. Quite frankly more of our support, especially in Scotland and Northern England is coming from former Labour voters.”

“I don’t think we will be doing any business with the Conservatives and certainly not with Prime Minister Cameron. That man [David Cameron] is a disaster and we have a lot of Labour supporters and we wouldn’t want to do a deal with the Conservatives that would put them off,” Coburn added.

The MEP was responding after a number of Conservative MPs, led by Jacob Rees-Mogg MP, had proposed entering into a pre-election pact with Ukip that would see their party leader, Nigel Farage MEP, become Deputy Prime Minister.

“There is a Ukip Government coming round the corner and Ukip will hold the balance of power at the next UK election,” Coburn told RIA Novosti.

“But I don’t think Ukip are stupid enough to get into bed with Mr Cameron. Just look what happened to Mr Clegg [Leader of the Liberal Democrats, the Conservatives’ coalition partners] and his merry men,”Conurn added.

RIA Novosti invited the Labour Party to respond to the proposal, but they declined to comment.
