MOSCOW, September 1 (RIA Novosti) – Russia is “indignant” at comments made last week by Daniel Baer, the US envoy to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Monday.

“We are indignant at the fact that the US diplomat, who used to make hideous anti-Russian statements in the past, has crossed all boundaries of diplomatic decency this time. His baseless accusations were full of blatant assaults and rudeness directed at our country,” the ministry said in a statement.

During the extraordinary OSCE meeting in Vienna last Thursday, Baer accused Russia of sending personnel and armored vehicles to Ukraine in what he claimed constituted “a new Russian escalation, including a Russia-directed counteroffensive” and “actions that are in clear violation of international law and OSCE principles and commitments.”

The comments of the US diplomat are in line with what Western countries have been accusing Russia of when speaking of the Ukrainian crisis. The West accused Russia of supplying independence supporters in eastern Ukraine with weapons and hardware, without providing any proof to those statements.

Moscow has repeatedly denied its involvement in the crisis in Ukraine and called for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Nevertheless, Western countries have imposed economic sanctions against Russia over the Ukrainian crisis, targeting certain Russian individuals and companies. Moscow has called such measures counterproductive and said they threatened international peace and stability.
