Russia has never held military actions in Ukraine and is not planning to undertake any in the future, Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said Saturday in an interview with Slovak television.

MOSCOW, August 30 (RIA Novosti) — Russia has never held military actions in Ukraine and is not planning to undertake any in the future, Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said Saturday in an interview with Slovak television.

“Russia has never conducted warfare in Ukraine and will not do so," Antonov said.

“Obviously, Russia is not waging any war. Russia’s policy is not to allow the development of the situation on the worst-case scenario. There are some forces which are trying to collide these two peoples to start a war between Ukraine and Russia,"Antonov said.

He added that Russia would do its utmost to avoid such development of the situation.

Russia has repeatedly called on the warring sides in Ukraine to launch dialogue and solve the issue through a peaceful and political process.

On Firday, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for a conciliatory dialogue among all the sides of the conflict. Speaking at the Seliger youth forum Friday, Putin said that the “fratricidal war must be stopped immediately," but noted that the Kiev government prefers the language of ultimatums.

Ukraine’s southeastern regions never recognized the legitimacy of the new authorities that took over the country after the February 22 regime change. The regions protested the new government and held referendums on self-determination, voting to separate from Ukraine. In return, Kiev launched a military operation to crack down on the independence supporters.

Moscow continues to insist on an immediate end to the «punitive operation» in eastern Ukraine, which claimed the lives of 2,220 people and injured about 6,000 between mid-April and August 17, according to the UN report published Friday.
