MOSCOW, August 10 (RIA Novosti) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has reappointed Wael Nader al-Halqi as prime minister, Reuters reported citing state media on Sunday.
Halqi has been heading the Syrian government since 2012. Halqi will head the new government to be formed after Assad was sworn in as president for a new term last month.
Halqi replaced Riad Hijab, who defected to the opposition two years ago. Last year, Halqi survived a bomb attack targeting his convoy in central Damascus.
Halqi is now required to form a new government.
Assad was elected to serve his third seven-year term as Syria's President after winning the June 3 presidential elections amid continuing uprising against his rule more than three years into the country’s civil war that killed tens of thousands of people.
