MOSCOW, August 8 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said Friday it offered 18 enterprises in Peru to resume fish export to Russia and suggested the possibility of dairy exports from the Latin American country.

"Rosselkhoznadzor deems possible the resumption of fish products delivery to Russia from 18 Peruvian fish-processing plants. Besides, Rosselkhoznadzor is asking Peru's veterinary service to examine the dairy plants interested in the exports to Russia of such products as powder milk, sweetened condensed milk, cheese and cottage cheese," the watchdog said after its head Sergei Dankvert met with Peru's Ambassador to Moscow Gustavo Otero.

Russia also plans to import some prime segment seafood from Peru, such as giant octopus, and is interested in increasing the import of fruit, vegetables and nuts.

"A certain growth is already visible - last year, Russia received 20,000 tons of grapes, while in the first half of this year, it received 14,000 tons," Rosselkhoznadzor said.

On Thursday, Russia imposed a one-year ban on the imports of beef, pork, poultry, fish, seafood, milk, dairy products, as well as fruits and vegetables from the European Union, the United States, Australia, Canada and Norway.

Russia’s import ban came in response to several rounds of Western sanctions against Russian businesses and officials at the height of the Ukrainian crisis.
