MOSCOW, May 7 (RIA Novosti) — FBI Director Robert Mueller held “productive” security talks with his Russian colleagues in Moscow on Tuesday, the US embassy in Russia said.

“FBI Director Robert Mueller visited Moscow today for productive meetings with his Russian counterparts on opportunities for growth in security cooperation between our countries,” the embassy said in a statement posted on its website.

Earlier in the day, John Kerry, who arrived in Moscow on Tuesday on his first official visit since his appointment as US Secretary of State, thanked Russia for its cooperation in investigating the deadly Boston Marathon bombing.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his counterpart Barack Obama agreed in a phone conversation in late April to step up contact between the two states’ special services following the Boston bombing, which killed three people and injured more than 200 on April 15. The suspects in the bombing are two brothers with Russian roots who had moved to the US about 10 years ago, and about whose family, it emerged after the bombing, the two security agencies had previously been in contact.
